The Novel Ideas
The Novel Ideas is a rock-folk-romantic-pop outfit from the sprawling suburbs of Newton, Masssachusetts. Daniel Radin started the band in large part because he wanted to sing in a band with a girl, and thus, The Novel Ideas was created. The name was chosen due to Daniel's affinity for writing songs about books rather than girls. They released their first debut, "Say Hello" in 2007 and it was highly praised. Graduation arrived and after various member changes, sad goodbyes, and happy hellos, the lineup has finally settled. In all the hubub they gained songwriter Alex Caplow who just happens to write really neat music and hence the band's sound was vastly expanded.
Their sophomore effort, "The Sky is a Field," is self-released directly from their website and has already garnered much acclaim from the blogosphere and national publications. There is no gimmick or core-value to The Novel Ideas other than to have no two songs sound the same and put on a fun and energetic live show. They begin their first national tour in June of 2010.
"Another lovely little nugget from the inbox this week was music from Newton, Masssachusetts' The Novel Ideas. Their sophomore LP, The Sky is a Field is available as a free download from their website. You can file it under smart, literate, orchestrated pop with great male/female duet vocals." -Quick Before it Melts
